Certo Aerospace, a drone technology firm based in Frome, has successfully raised over \u00a33 million in new capital through a recent equity placement. This significant investment, secured from existing shareholders and high-net-worth individuals, builds upon more than \u00a33.76 million of funding previously received from the US Department of Defence in recent years, underscoring the company’s promising potential in the unmanned aerial systems sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Somerset-based company intends to channel these new funds into accelerating the development of its large uncrewed air systems. Certo believes these advanced aircraft possess the capability to eventually supersede traditional manned helicopters in various critical applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Certo\u2019s high-tech aircraft is currently undergoing its second year of rigorous flight testing, demonstrating impressive capabilities. The unmanned vehicle boasts a substantial range of 300 miles and can remain airborne for up to eight hours without interruption. Furthermore, it has a significant lifting capacity, able to carry 300kg of combined payload and fuel. According to Certo, these versatile aircraft hold immense potential for vital operations such as humanitarian assistance, disaster relief efforts, and casualty evacuation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The flagship design for Certo is the Capstone Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft. The company states that Capstone is presently the largest drone engaged in regular flight operations within the United Kingdom. This aircraft is equipped with a certified aero-engine, ensuring reliability and performance. Crucially, Capstone is designed to be operable from both land-based locations and maritime platforms, including ships and other seaborne vessels, significantly expanding its potential deployment scenarios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Capstone aircraft are currently undergoing trials with various government agencies and are actively flying from multiple sites across the West Country, including former Royal Air Force (RAF), Royal Navy, and Army airfields. These ongoing trials are crucial in demonstrating the aircraft’s capabilities and suitability for a range of demanding applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
