Plans for a \u00a31 billion cyber centre in Cheltenham have progressed following the appointment of an architect for the next phase of the ambitious project. The Golden Valley Development, situated adjacent to GCHQ, aims to solidify Cheltenham’s position as the UK’s cyber capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Developer Henry Boot (HBD) has announced that architects Sheppard Robson will spearhead the design of two buildings in the second phase of the scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
HBD director Matt Bellshaw commented: “The appointment represents a major step forward for the project as we begin to move our focus from concept stage to delivery.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The developer submitted its plans in October, and upon completion, the project is expected to encompass one million square feet of commercial space and generate 12,000 new jobs. The proposals also include the construction of 1,067 homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sheppard Robson joins the Golden Valley team alongside architect BDP, who are already working on the designs for the innovation centre and mobility hub, which constitute the initial development phase. A separate application, specifically for the National Cyber Innovation Centre, is slated for submission this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Paul Jones, deputy chief executive of Cheltenham Borough Council, described the appointment of the firm as “an exciting and major step”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added: “We are delighted to be working with our partners, who share our vision to create an internationally significant hub for cyber and security, which will protect Cheltenham\u2019s future with jobs, training and career opportunities, whilst also creating a sustainable community for the people of Cheltenham.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
