Bristol-based software specialist Techmodal has revealed the complexities of building a data science business focused on the defence sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company has grown from a university spin-out to a \u00a320 million turnover firm with over 160 staff. It uses data analytics to solve operational and supply chain problems for the UK\u2019s defence industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Techmodal\u2019s interim director, Sarah Trevelion, discussed the challenges of operating in this specialised market: “The work we do is primarily split across three offerings – data science, modelling and simulation, and operational analysis. Those three offerings are mostly focused on defence and helping organisations understand their data, do forecasting and modelling to know what they need to do in the future.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company, acquired by BAE Systems in 2020, has become a leading player in its field, employing staff with expertise in both data science and defence. The acquisition by BAE Systems has strengthened Techmodal\u2019s position in the defence sector, providing greater security and access to new opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Techmodal secured a two-year contract with NHS Blood and Transplant in 2021, that aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of blood and organ donation services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
