ByteSnap Design launches online tool to assess embedded systems project feasibility
ByteSnap Design has launched a free online Project Success Calculator designed to help manufacturers and product developers assess the feasibility of embedded systems projects before beginning development work.
The Birmingham-based embedded electronics and software consultancy said the tool is intended to help organisations identify technical and regulatory risks that could affect project delivery.
The online assessment uses a 10-question process covering areas including project type, development stage, timelines, regulatory requirements, technical complexity, internal capabilities and risk tolerance. Based on responses, the system generates a Success Probability Score ranging from 0 to 500+ and provides guidance on risk mitigation and project planning.
Graeme Wintle, director at ByteSnap Design, said: “In 2026, the margin for error in electronics development has essentially vanished. Component scarcity, tightening cybersecurity regulations like the EU Cyber Resilience Act, and increasingly complex SoC integration mean that projects which start without a clear-eyed view of their risks rarely recover from early missteps. We built this tool so that any manufacturer, regardless of how technical they are, can get an honest assessment of where their project stands before a single component is ordered.”
The company said the calculator draws on more than 18 years of engineering delivery data and experience from hundreds of embedded systems projects. Areas covered include IoT devices, ATEX-certified systems, FPGA implementations, firmware development, medical devices and industrial automation equipment.
The assessment process also identifies possible issues linked to regulatory compliance, hardware and firmware feasibility, supply chain risks and cybersecurity requirements under standards including IEC 62304, ISO 26262, EN 18031 and IEC 62443.
ByteSnap Design stated that no technical documentation is required to complete the assessment, with users only needing an understanding of project objectives and high-level requirements.
Founded in 2008, the company provides embedded systems development services in areas including embedded Linux, IoT and cybersecurity for clients ranging from start-ups to multinational businesses.
