Newcastle comms and IT firm backed by £500K boost

A Newcastle-based technology company is targeting further growth after securing a £500,000 investment.

Activ Technology is an independent provider of mobile, communications and IT services to small and medium businesses in the Northern England and Scotland. Clients include Lumley Castle Hotel, MB&G and South Shields Community School.

Based on Balliol Business Park, the company has been backed by FW Capital.

The company will use the funds to accelerate its proposed expansion and recruit 16 new members of staff ahead of plans to expand its reach beyond the region into Cumbria and the North West.

Activ was advised by Muckle’s Kevin Maloney and UNW’s John Healey.

Ian Gillespie, managing director of Activ Technology, said: “We required a quick turnaround on this investment deal and we knew that Muckle and UNW would be able to deliver this within the very tight timescale.

“The funding comes at a positive time for the business and will play a key role in our future growth plans.”

Maloney, a partner in the banking team at Muckle, added: “We’re pleased to have advised Activ Technology on the completion of this deal which will support its future expansion. We knew the transaction had to be completed promptly and by working closely with Activ, UNW and FW Capital we were able to finalise the legal documentation on time for our client.”

Healey, a corporate finance partner at UNW, said it was “great” that local funds are being focused on providing growth capital to North East businesses.

The company last week introduced MaaS360, an easy-to-use mobile device management (MDM) platform which provides a powerful suite of tools to handle the management and security of mobile devices – and all from a single screen.
