The application window for the Leeds Tech Map closes this Friday, 16 January. Development of the updated and larger version of the map began late last year, following the original design which was introduced nearly five years ago to offices and meeting rooms across the region.
Stuart Clarke MBE is coordinating the update to the map, which provides a visual summary of the technology sector in the city. Mr Clarke appeared on a regional list again last year and is a figure in the local technology community.
Technology firms based in Leeds are invited to put themselves forward for inclusion through a competition called The Techs Factor. To be considered for the map, businesses must have a software development element at the heart of their operations and the majority of their technical staff must be located in Leeds.
All companies that are selected for the final map will receive a printed copy when the new version is launched in February 2026. This year’s project is supported by law firm ALT Legal and chartered accountants BHP. The Data City, a firm based in Leeds, is serving as the official data partner to ensure the map reflects the full scope of the sector.
Stuart Clarke MBE, who also serves as the chair of Leeds Digital and the founder of UK Tech Week, said: “To be on the map, you’ll need to have a software development element to your work – so no IT resellers, digital agencies etc – and the majority of your tech team should be based in Leeds.”
He added: “The workspaces, professional support, and networks & meetups sectors won’t need a software element.”
