RMT Technology has been chosen to provide a comprehensive managed-service partnership for Cyclife UK, a subsidiary of the EDF Group that assists its clients with nuclear decommissioning projects and the handling of radioactive waste.

The Newcastle-based firm has been providing IT support for Cyclife UK at its Workington location for the past six years. This work will now be substantially expanded, with RMT Technology delivering daily IT support, preventative threat monitoring, and long-term infrastructure planning across all of Cyclife UK’s operations in the United Kingdom.

The contract is anticipated to result in the creation of several new service desk and field engineering positions, with new staff already in place in Southampton to cover Cyclife UK’s requirements in the south of England. The value of the contract has not been disclosed. The business, which is based in Gosforth, is aiming to use this agreement to help solidify its standing in the energy and environment sectors, as well as to demonstrate its capability in meeting complex needs for clients operating across multiple sites.

Cyclife UK is involved in the design and dismantling of its customers’ facilities, and it offers services including large component management, decontamination, waste volume reduction, material recycling, melting, and incineration.

Andrew Laker, chief transformation officer at Cyclife UK, said: “We are delighted to reaffirm our trusted partnership with RMT Technology as our chosen IT partner. Over the years, RMT has consistently demonstrated deep expertise and unwavering commitment to the high standards required in nuclear security. As we embark on a significant integration with our sister company, Cyclife Aquila, RMT’s support will be vital in ensuring seamless continuity of service across our IT landscape. Their understanding of our business drivers and strategic goals gives us full confidence in their ability to deliver the quality and reliability we expect.”

RMT Technology works with a growing range of businesses to identify and implement security-first IT solutions that address their specific business and operational needs concerning IT strategy, network infrastructure, information security, and data management services. The business recently relocated to a new 1,800 sq ft office and build area at RMT’s headquarters as part of expansion plans which are expected to see at least 15 new technical and project management jobs created over the next two years.

Stephen McNickle, commercial director at RMT Technology, added: “Our deep understanding of Cyclife’s operational environment, our strong track record in highly regulated sectors and our ability to deliver robust, secure solutions at scale have all played a part in this contract success and we’re thrilled to be extending our relationship with them. Winning this tender demonstrates our team’s ability to meet the stringent security, compliance and uptime requirements of world-class operators like Cyclife, and we’re investing in both our team and our facilities to ensure that our people, processes and technology are all ready to take on these sorts of enterprise-level opportunities.”
