{"id":1259,"date":"2017-01-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-01-12T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.techsparx.co.uk\/north\/uncategorized\/plans-new-innovation-campus-boost-ecenomy-100m-submitted\/"},"modified":"2025-02-28T14:37:49","modified_gmt":"2025-02-28T14:37:49","slug":"plans-new-innovation-campus-boost-ecenomy-100m-submitted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.techsparx.co.uk\/north\/plans-new-innovation-campus-boost-ecenomy-100m-submitted\/","title":{"rendered":"Plans for a new innovation campus which could boost economy by \u00a3100m submitted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Plans for a \u00a360m expansion of the Citylabs campus have been submitted and if approved &#8211; the development is expected to boost Manchester&#8217;s economy by \u00a3100m bringing 750 jobs to the region by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The new development is being proposed by Manchester Science Partnerships in a joint venture with Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT).<\/p>\n<p>Located on the CMFT campus in the heart of Manchester\u2019s innovation district, Corridor Manchester, Citylabs 2.0 and 3.0 will be targeted at health and medical technology companies.<\/p>\n<p>MSP and CMFT have already received interest from potential occupiers after showcasing the schemes during a recent trade mission to the US, which included meetings at the important global AdvaMed conference.<\/p>\n<div class=\"outer\"><\/div>\n<aside class=\"read-more-links\"><\/aside>\n<p>Thomas Renn, managing director of MSP said: \u201cAfter consulting with the local community and other stakeholders last month, we\u2019re pleased and excited to be bringing this ambitious development forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe success of Citylabs 1.0 \u2013 which was fully let within 15 months of opening \u2013 has given us the confidence to invest in phases two and three, and we are sure demand will be strong for these high quality facilities located in a great physical and intellectual environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keith Chantler, director of innovation at CMFT explained: \u201cThis joint partnership with MSP offers a fantastic opportunity for our patients, staff and our hospitals, to further develop the successful Citylabs cluster. Citylabs brings together NHS, university and industry partners to co-develop new healthcare technologies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy involving clinicians and patients from the start of the development and testing process, products are more likely to meet our future needs, and be rapidly adopted by the NHS and other health services across the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chris Roberts, development director at Bruntwood, which has submitted the application on behalf of MSP, added: \u201cThe planned expansion of Citylabs is a great vote of confidence in Manchester and alongside the existing major developments on the city\u2019s Innovation District \u2013 such as Circle Square and the Alliance Manchester Business School &#8211; will reinforce its credentials as a world class location for science and technology businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"outer\">\n<div class=\"mod-image\"><img alt=\"\" \/>Citylabs 2.0 will include 85,000 sq ft of lab &amp; office space<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"read-more-links\">\n<h5>Read More<\/h5>\n<\/aside>\n<p>The submission of the planning application follows a public exhibition and consultation in November at Citylabs 1.0.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phase 1<\/strong> , the \u00a325m Citylabs 2.0 development will comprise 92,000 sq ft of lab and office space. Subject to planning permission being granted, construction work will begin in autumn 2017, with completion expected in late 2018.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phase 2<\/strong> , Citylabs 3.0 will span 128,000 sq ft and integrate the development of new buildings with the Old Saint Mary\u2019s Hospital, an existing listed Victorian building. Construction is planned to start in summer 2018 and is due to be completed in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a335m project includes the restoration of a currently unused former chapel on the site, which is ear-marked for a caf\u00e9\/ dining area with the potential for meeting room facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme also includes extensive external landscaping and the provision of new gardens for the enjoyment of Citylabs customers and other users of the hospital facilities.
