Dorset Business Angels (DBA) latest pitch event saw five promising businesses present their ventures to potential investors. Topping the bill was a company using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to transform unstructured scientific data into actionable digital assets.

The platform is designed to extract valuable insights from technical documents that would otherwise remain inaccessible, with the aim of helping research organisations speed up their Research and Development timelines while significantly cutting data handling costs. The founders of the AI firm will now move forward to the due diligence stage, overseen by a lead investor appointed by DBA.

Notably, this venture is the first to be introduced to DBA through the group’s ambassador programme, having been put forward by ambassador Chris Spackman, who works closely with the University of Southampton’s Future Worlds accelerator.

Mr Spackman said: “I was delighted to introduce this team to DBA members. Having mentored them for three years now, I was certain of their readiness to pitch, and I’m so pleased that it was received so well.”

Another technology company, which offers a simplified user interface designed to make technology accessible for individuals who find digital devices such as mobile phones and tablets challenging, whether due to age or disability, also attracted significant attention from investors.

The pitch highlighted the company’s impressive commercial progress, including partnerships with major retailers and telecom operators, as well as established distribution channels in the UK and Germany, with plans for further expansion across Europe.

DBA chair Don McQueen commented: “DBA continues to introduce its members to wide-ranging investment opportunities. We are nurturing a strong investment community in Dorset through our pitch events and have recently introduced a social element to our events programme which also went down very well. We are looking forward to our next event on 29 September, entrepreneurs interested in pitching to us should visit our website to find out how to submit their plans.”
