SETsquared Bristol, the successful tech incubator backed by the University of Bristol, has announced three key appointments to its team. Caroline Thompson has joined as Centre Manager, while Dr. Becky Sage and Dr. Kam Pooni have been named Entrepreneurs in Residence.
They will work alongside the existing team to support SETsquared Bristol’s member companies. Since its inception in 2002, SETsquared Bristol has assisted over 400 companies in securing more than £740 million in funding. Its programme provides business support, training, and access to adviser and investor networks.
Caroline Thompson brings over 10 years of experience in building entrepreneurial ecosystems and leading growth programmes, having previously served as South West enterprise director for NatWest. In her new role, she will oversee business support, member activities, and ecosystem engagement.
Caroline stated: “I am thrilled to join SETsquared Bristol and become part of its dynamic and impactful team. Supporting hi-tech, high-growth start-ups and scale-ups to thrive is a passion of mine and I look forward to working with the talented founders and emerging ventures from the University of Bristol and regional innovation ecosystem.”
The Entrepreneurs in Residence at SETsquared Bristol play a crucial role in helping over 75 member companies commercialise and scale through one-to-one sessions, investor readiness, and introductions to networks.
Dr. Becky Sage, a University of Bristol PhD graduate and experienced founder, returns to SETsquared Bristol with a deep understanding of the entrepreneurial journey. Dr. Kam Pooni, a life sciences entrepreneur with over 27 years of experience, specialises in translating academic research into scalable ventures across diagnostics, health-tech, and pharma.
Rosie Bennett, Innovation Lead at Bristol Innovations, commented: “Caroline, Becky and Kam come with a wealth of experience and complementary skills to support our members and build innovation-rich ventures at scale.”
SETsquared Bristol is based in Bristol’s Engine Shed tech hub and is a key part of the city’s Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus and Bristol Innovations, the University of Bristol’s catalyst for innovation.
