Somerset’s Gooch & Housego to expand US footprint with global photonics acquisition

Gooch & Housego (G&H), a leading Somerset-headquartered manufacturer of photonic components and systems, has announced the completion of its acquisition of US firm, Global Photonics.

The strategic purchase is set to significantly bolster G&H’s presence within the burgeoning US aerospace and defence market. According to the company, the acquisition “significantly extends G&H’s presence in the US aerospace and defence market.”

The move is seen as a pivotal step in mirroring the achievements of the group’s highly successful optical systems hub in the UK. The company stated it “mark[s] an important step towards replicating the success of the group’s optical systems hub in the UK by establishing a full optical systems engineering and manufacturing capability in the US.”

As part of the consideration for the acquisition, Gooch & Housego has issued 1,328,636 new ordinary shares, each valued at 20 pence. An application has been made to the London Stock Exchange for the admission of these new ordinary shares to trading on AIM.

Admission is anticipated to become effective, with dealings in these new ordinary shares expected to commence at 8 am on 20 June 2025. These shares will rank pari passu with the company’s existing ordinary shares and will constitute approximately 4.9 per cent of the company’s enlarged issued share capital following their admission.
