Wiltshire Council is donating its old laptops to help bridge the digital divide in the community. The council has partnered with Wiltshire Digital Drive, a community interest company, to donate its end-of-life laptops.
These laptops will be securely wiped, refurbished, and then redistributed to young people and adults who lack access to technology. The initiative aligns with the government’s Digital Inclusion Action Plan, which includes a national device donation scheme.
Councillor Mel Jacob, the council’s deputy leader, said: “We are proud to be collaborating on this worthwhile project with Wiltshire Digital Drive, meaning people who really need it will continue to get access to digital technology and all the benefits that can bring.”
Wiltshire Digital Drive works with schools, charities, organisations, and council services across Wiltshire and the southwest to support those in need.
Natalie Luckham, a director at Wiltshire Digital Drive, said: “Partnerships like this are really the best way that we can begin to address digital poverty in our communities and will ensure we have appropriate laptops to distribute to a wide range of people.”
