Wincanton, the logistics firm recently acquired by US giant GXO, has today (9th June 2025) opened a significant new 314,658 sq ft warehouse in Weston-Super-Mare. The facility is dedicated to supporting the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station project in Somerset and is expected to create up to 70 jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This marks Wincanton’s sixth site supporting the UK’s first new nuclear power station in a generation, further expanding its partnership with EDF Energy. As the official warehouse and transport service partner for the project, Wincanton plays a critical role in managing the complex supply chain required for the large-scale infrastructure development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new warehouse will support the project’s growth by providing comprehensive warehousing services for both outsized and palletised goods, secure storage, advanced inventory controls, and supply chain integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once operational, Hinkley Point C is projected to generate low-carbon electricity for approximately six million homes over 60 years, fulfilling about 7% of the UK’s electricity needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
