Tech North begins quest for new batch of Northern Stars

Tech North is looking to discover the most promising early-stage tech companies in the North of England, including the lesser-known, undiscovered start-ups.

Applications are open until 9 October, with the grand final on 17 November.

If you think you’ve got what it takes, then apply online to become part of the Northern Stars 2016 competition.

Northern Stars is a pitch competition that seeks to identify and showcase the best tech startups in the North of England. Tech North run a series of regional pitch events, culminating in a ‘Grand Final’ where 10 winning companies are chosen by a panel of judges.

The 10 winning startups receive a package of opportunities designed to raise their profile and build their networks, including a host of promotional activity and places at a number of high-profile events (prize package will be confirmed on Monday).

The organisers want to hear from early-stage tech and digital startups of all shapes and sizes, working on everything from artificial intelligence, virtual reality and internet of things, to drones, FinTech, HealthTech, EdTech, games, and more…

Matt Jeffs-Watts, Tech North’s head of programme delivery (and lead for Northern Stars) said: “The Northern Stars programme exceeded all expectations for its first year, attracting some truly world-class tech startups that were particularly strong in the online space. It’s exciting to raise the bar even higher this year and attract not only the best, but also a diverse range of companies from across the sector.

“There are some amazing  Northern companies that are developing technology in Drones, AI, HealthTech, VR, FinTech, Games, you name it, and we want them to apply to Northern Stars. We have an amazing group of high-profile partners behind us and we are aiming to exceed those expectations again.”

The competition is open to digital tech startups based in the North of England, who have raised less than £2m investment, and have a live product in the market with customer traction.
