An IT technical consultant at Phoenix Software, based in York, has become the first female in the UK to achieve the Broadcom VCF Knight – NSX certification.
Leaha Torres, aged 25, is also among the youngest professionals to receive this designation, which is the highest honour provided by Broadcom for partner professionals.
The certification is part of a programme designed to identify technical experts with mastery in the architecture, implementation, and support of VMware Cloud Foundation and NSX solutions. These individuals assist partners in deploying software within complex customer environments. The achievement adds to the existing technical capabilities of the York-based firm.
Leaha Torres joined the company in October 2022, initially working in service desk support before progressing to a consultant role in November 2024. Her professional development included achieving VMware Certified Professional status and managing a personal technical laboratory at home to test ideas and create technical guides for customers.
In addition to her professional role, she maintains a technical blog and has been recognised as a vExpert for her contributions to the software community. She has also joined the Veeam Legend community, which consists of recognised experts across various technical fields.
Leaha Torres said: “Whenever I spot something interesting — a certification, a programme, a new challenge — I go for it. I’ve kind of turned into a collector of technical badges. But for me, they’re less about status and more about unlocking new learning paths and challenges. Certifications open doors, but there is no substitute for practical experimentation. This is what makes you actually good at what you do.”

The consultant is currently studying for further specialisms in Operations and Kubernetes to add to her existing certification.
