Warwick showcases upgraded Fusion Lab at Tech Fest 2026
The University of Warwick highlighted its upgraded Fusion CreaTech Lab during Tech Fest 2026, positioning the facility as a focal point for collaboration between industry, academia and creative technology specialists.
The event, held on 14 April 2026 at the university’s Fusion Lab, brought together businesses, technology partners and students to explore developments in digital innovation, gaming and content creation. The upgraded lab formed the centrepiece of the event, demonstrating the university’s investment in facilities designed to support creative technology research and development.
Visitors were given access to the Fusion Lab’s capabilities, including high-performance computing systems, advanced gaming environments and user experience testing tools. Interactive elements such as racing simulators and console gaming provided insight into how technologies are developed and tested in practical settings.
The event programme included contributions from organisations such as AMD, Blackmagic Design, NVIDIA, Zowie, Wired2Fire, Google for Education, Canva and Centre for Entertainment Arts, reflecting collaboration between industry and academia.
Mick McLaughlin, business development manager at the University of Warwick, said: “Fusion Tech Fest 2026 was about bringing together industry, innovation, academia and student creativity in one space. The upgraded Fusion Lab gave us the ability to showcase cutting-edge gaming and performance technology while creating opportunities for students to engage directly with companies shaping the future of CreaTech, digital media and creative technology.”
Melissa Cauldwell, channel marketing manager at AMD, said: “We’re excited to see the University of Warwick building high-performance sports and a CreaTech technology environment using AMD Ryzen processors and Radeon graphics.
“Initiatives like Fusion Tech Fest, help inspire the next generation of engineers, developers and creators by giving them hands-on access to the technology driving modern gaming and high-performance computing.”
Tech Fest 2026 also created opportunities for collaboration between industry partners, researchers and students, supporting skills development and future partnerships in the creative technology sector.
The event was delivered as part of CreaTech Frontiers, an initiative funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council under UK Research and Innovation to support innovation across the West Midlands’ creative industries.
