Entry-level tech: London takes the lead, while the Northwest awaits growth

The UK’s IT job market presents competitive salaries and flexible working options. However, for newcomers, the choices can often seem overwhelming. Should you pursue a career in coding, or opt for a DevOps role? Does specializing in security offer greater job satisfaction compared to focusing on cloud technologies? There’s a noticeable lack of guidance for individuals contemplating entry into this field.

This is why Computing has joined forces with IT recruitment specialist Harvey Nash to simplify the journey to success by providing a quarterly update on the most promising entry-level tech positions.

London vs. the Northwest: A Growing Disparity Although London continues to be the epicenter of the tech job market, the Northwest is rapidly emerging as a region with significant potential. While one-third of the UK’s 1.73 million tech positions are located in the capital, the most substantial growth is occurring in the North, propelled by tech hubs such as Manchester, Liverpool, and Newcastle.

In the UK, tech employment hotspots include London, the Northwest, and Birmingham, with the Northwest showing a growing momentum. According to Nash Squared’s 2022 Digital Leadership Report, 62% of organizations in the region are planning to expand their tech budgets in the upcoming year.
