Pool-headquartered technology company Green Power Solutions has secured an 18-month co-funded contract with the European Space Agency’s Business Applications and Space Solutions programme.

Based at the Pool Innovation Centre in Cornwall, the firm will lead the Smart Ops project. The initiative explores how machine learning models and satellite positioning data can assist operations teams in managing off-grid infrastructure.

The software system is being designed to identify equipment maintenance requirements, prioritise operational faults, and dispatch nearby qualified engineers when physical site maintenance is necessary.

Green Power Solutions developed the project using its existing remote asset-monitoring platform, TrackSyte, which tracks equipment condition, energy performance, and geographic location for dispersed infrastructure networks.

Sam Taylor, chief executive of Green Power Solutions, said: “Securing this contract with the European Space Agency reflects the potential of the technology we have developed through TrackSyte, from right here in Cornwall. This project allows us to explore how satellite technology can build on the information operators already have about their remote assets. It is an exciting milestone for Green Power Solutions as we help clients adopt more sustainable and practical ways to monitor off-grid infrastructure.

“Ultimately, it is about giving customers the confidence to send engineers out only when they are genuinely needed, to save time on the road, reduce unnecessary site visits and help to keep vital assets operational.”

Matt Harrington, Head of Cornwall Innovation Centres, concluded: “By building on its expertise, Green Power Solutions is on the way to tackling real operational challenges by developing technology that has the potential to make a meaningful difference for so many businesses. It’s brilliant to see a Cornwall-based company working on a project with this level of ambition, to demonstrate the talent and scale of technical expertise that can come from the county.”

The contract follows broader public sector funding initiatives across Cornwall’s space and satellite technology cluster, centred around the Goonhilly Earth Station and local innovation hubs. Regional space tech development programs delivered in Cornwall have backed commercial satellite data integration for environmental and industrial monitoring platforms.
